Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday became India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister, surpassing the tenure of the country’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
Congratulating Modi on the milestone, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Prime Minister’s leadership has been closely associated with many of the major developments witnessed by India over the past 12 years.
In a post on X, Sarma described the occasion as a historic moment and said the country should continue working towards the goal of achieving a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047.
“Today, as Adarniya Narendra Modi ji becomes the longest-serving elected Prime Minister of India, we celebrate the achievements the nation has made over the last 12 years,” Sarma wrote while extending his congratulations.
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang also greeted Modi on the achievement, calling it a reflection of the people’s trust in his leadership.
In his message on X, Tamang said Modi had crossed 4,399 days in office, overtaking Nehru’s record and marking a significant moment in India’s democratic journey.
He further said the milestone reflects public confidence in Modi’s vision, dedication and commitment to nation-building, adding that his leadership continues to guide the country’s progress towards the goal of a developed India by 2047.
