The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) organised its “Chalo Sansad” march in central Delhi on Monday, but the protest turned violent after thousands of demonstrators tried to move towards Parliament. Police responded by using tear gas and carrying out a lathi-charge to stop the crowd. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke was also detained during the protest.
Several parts of central Delhi, including Parliament Street, Constitution Club, Patel Chowk, Shastri Bhawan and the RBI building, witnessed clashes as protesters broke through police barricades in an attempt to enter the high-security zone near Parliament. Some protesters and police personnel reportedly suffered minor injuries.
According to the CJP, Dipke was taken into police custody while participating in the march. Party spokesperson Saurav Das alleged that the police used unnecessary force against peaceful protesters and appealed to Members of Parliament to support the students’ demands.
Thousands of students and supporters took part in the protest, carrying the national flag and raising slogans such as “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, “Vande Mataram” and “Dharmendra Pradhan Istifa Do”. The protesters demanded accountability over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and called for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Security was tightened across the New Delhi district with additional police and paramilitary forces deployed to prevent protesters from reaching Parliament. Some metro station gates were closed, causing inconvenience to commuters, while internet services were temporarily suspended in parts of central Delhi as a precaution.
Meanwhile, activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is currently admitted to Safdarjung Hospital, requested permission to leave the hospital briefly to join the march. However, hospital authorities did not allow him to participate, saying that although his condition was stable, his blood parameters still required close monitoring.
The issue also disrupted proceedings in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, where Opposition members demanded a discussion on the alleged examination irregularities and the ongoing protests.
Addressing the protesters, Dipke repeated the party’s key demands, including the resignation of the Education Minister, compensation of ₹1 crore for the families of students who allegedly died by suicide due to examination-related issues, and the immediate release of Sonam Wangchuk.
Later, the CJP claimed that the government had invited its representatives for talks and that two party spokespersons would meet Union Minister J. P. Nadda to submit their demands. However, there was no official confirmation from the government regarding the meeting.
Several Opposition leaders, including Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, criticised the government’s handling of the protests. Kejriwal urged the Centre to hold discussions with the students instead of using force.
The CJP has been leading demonstrations over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak, demanding a fair investigation, reforms in the examination system and strict action against those responsible.
