Meghalaya Police arrested a man after recovering 9.77 grams of suspected heroin from his possession at a toll gate in the Ri-Bhoi district on Tuesday afternoon.
The suspect, identified as David Marwein, was intercepted around 12:50 PM while riding a scooter bearing registration number ML 05 AH 7002. Alert toll gate staff stopped Marwein on suspicion of carrying illicit drugs and immediately alerted the Superintendent of Police.
Following the report, a Gazetted Officer was dispatched to the scene, and independent witnesses were secured to oversee the procedure. During a search conducted in accordance with the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, officers recovered a soap box containing the contraband.
Police have registered a case at Byrnihat Police Station under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act. The accused remains in custody as investigators work to trace the origin and intended destination of the seized narcotics.
