US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran has been severely weakened by the recent conflict, saying the country is “finished” and will not receive any financial assistance from the United States.
In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump argued that the war had significantly damaged Iran’s military capabilities. He claimed the country no longer possesses an effective air force, navy, air defence systems or radar infrastructure.
Trump also criticised his political opponents, rejecting suggestions that Iran is in a stronger position than it was a few months ago. He mocked Democrats for making such claims and questioned their assessment of the situation.
According to Trump, it was Iran—not the United States—that sought engagement after the conflict. He maintained that Tehran was eager for talks and insisted that Washington would not alter its current approach.
“We’ll play out the 60 days. They get no money, not ten cents,” Trump wrote, reiterating that the US would not provide any financial relief to Iran.
His remarks came a day after Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei criticised the American president, accusing Trump of being desperate to secure a deal with Tehran and using every available tool to achieve it.
In his first public comments since the US-Iran draft agreement was signed, Khamenei said he had initially opposed the deal on principle. However, he eventually approved it after receiving assurances from President Masoud Pezeshkian and members of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council that Iran’s national interests and those of the “Resistance Front” would be protected.
