The Sikkim Election Department will organise special voter enrolment camps across the state on October 11 to help eligible citizens whose names were left out of the electoral rolls following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), officials said on Thursday.
The special enrolment drive has been undertaken in accordance with directions from the Election Commission of India. It will also target young and first-time voters who have turned 18 but have not yet registered themselves on the electoral roll.
According to the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Sikkim, the camps will be organised at polling stations across the state. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and other field-level officials will assist eligible citizens with the enrolment process.
The exercise will also be carried out through Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), wherever necessary, under the supervision of District Election Officers (DEOs).
Eligible citizens who are not yet included in the electoral roll can submit Form 6 to apply for inclusion of their names.
4.18 lakh electors on final roll
Sikkim’s final electoral roll, published on September 6 following the SIR exercise, contained 4,18,467 registered electors.
Before the revision, the state had 4,71,018 registered voters.
The Election Department has urged all eligible citizens whose names are missing from the electoral roll, including newly eligible voters, to visit the special camps and complete the enrolment process.
Officials said the initiative is aimed at providing eligible citizens with an opportunity to ensure their names are included in the electoral roll and to strengthen voter participation in the state.
