Meghalaya Prepares for Amit Shah Visit With Enhanced Security, Traffic Restrictions

Meghalaya Police have intensified security preparations and finalised a traffic management plan ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s two-day visit to the state on October 4 and 5.

Shah is scheduled to attend a ceremony for the presentation of the President’s Colours to the Meghalaya Police, a prestigious recognition for the state police force.

Meghalaya Director General of Police Vivek Syiem said security arrangements have been strengthened along the routes and locations linked to the Home Minister’s programme. Special teams and personnel from different police units will be deployed during the visit.

Around 1,500 police personnel are expected to be deployed across the state as part of the security arrangements.

Traffic Diversions Expected

The police have also prepared a detailed traffic management plan to regulate vehicular movement during the visit.

According to DGP Syiem, the SP (Traffic) will issue advisories informing commuters about routes that may need to be avoided and the timings of possible restrictions or diversions.

The police are working to ensure that the movement of the public, public transport and other vehicles remains as smooth as possible during the high-profile visit.

Security checks are also expected to be intensified along important routes connected to Shah’s programme.

President’s Colours a Major Milestone

DGP Syiem described the presentation of the President’s Colours as a significant achievement for the Meghalaya Police and a moment of pride for the force.

He said the honour recognises the dedication, integrity and service of police personnel who have worked to maintain security and serve the people of Meghalaya.

Syiem said the Meghalaya Police would continue to focus on professionalism and improving public services. He also emphasised the importance of integrity and a strong commitment to serving the people.

The two-day visit is expected to bring increased security and traffic regulation to key areas of the state, with police urging commuters to follow official traffic advisories during the visit.
