Tripura releases Rs 6.24 crore for digital learning; 12,478 students to get smartphones

The Government of Tripura has reaffirmed its push for digital education by releasing Rs 6.24 crore under the Mukhyamantri Yuba Yogayog Yojana (MYYY) for the academic year 2024–25 on Wednesday (March 11).

The fund was officially launched during a programme at the Secretariat in Agartala by Pranajit Singha Roy, Minister for IT and Finance.

Officials from the Directorate of Information Technology said the initiative, introduced under the leadership of Chief Minister Manik Saha, aims to help students gain better access to digital learning resources.

Under the scheme, 12,478 final-year students studying in government colleges across the state will receive financial assistance of Rs 5,000 each to purchase smartphones, enabling them to access online educational materials more easily.

The programme is being implemented by the Directorate of Information Technology. For the current academic year, applications were invited from November 1 to December 20, 2025, after the scheme was formally launched by Chief Minister Manik Saha on October 28, 2025. Applications were received from 40 government colleges, institutes and universities, and all 12,478 applicants were found eligible.

The financial assistance will be directly transferred to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

Senior officials present at the programme included Kiran Gitte, Secretary, IT, and Jeya Ragul Geshan B, Director, IT, along with officials of the Directorate of Information Technology, IT nodal officers from colleges and student representatives.

Through initiatives like the Mukhyamantri Yuba Yogayog Yojana, the Tripura government aims to strengthen digital education and ensure students have better access to the tools needed for their academic growth.
