The Tripura State Election Commission has completed preparations for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Village Committee elections, which will be held on Monday, September 28. Around 6.65 lakh voters are eligible to cast their votes.
According to the State Election Commission, polling will be held for 2,950 seats across 587 Village Committees. There are 4,597 seats in total.
As many as 1,644 seats have already been declared elected unopposed, while three seats remain vacant as no political party submitted nominations.
A total of 8,176 candidates from different political parties are contesting the election.
Voting will take place at 1,095 polling stations out of the 1,550 identified centres where candidates are contesting. Ballot papers in four colours — white, light pink, light green and light blue — will be used for different seats to make it easier for voters and polling staff to identify them.
Security arrangements
The Election Commission said 74 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) have been deployed across Tripura for the elections.
Around 8,977 personnel from the Tripura Police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) have also been deployed. More than 1,500 senior officers from different security agencies will monitor the law-and-order situation during polling.
Additional security measures have been put in place at polling stations classified as highly sensitive.
Polling teams deployed
Around 7,458 polling personnel have been assigned election duties and divided into 1,243 teams.
The teams started travelling to their respective polling stations on Sunday morning along with election materials. The Commission said most teams had reached their assigned locations.
After polling ends on Monday, the teams will return with the ballot boxes to designated receiving centres at the offices of the respective Returning Officers.
The Commission said polling personnel had been trained and briefed on standard operating procedures for conducting the ballot-based election. Training and coordination meetings with Returning Officers were also conducted through video conferencing.
Counting centres have been identified across the state. Counting supervisors and assistants are also being appointed and trained ahead of the counting process.
The State Election Commission has appealed to all eligible voters to come out and vote peacefully and exercise their constitutional right.
