Tripura BJP Chief Says CPI(M), Congress Face Setback in Hills

Tripura BJP president Abhishek Debroy has predicted that the CPI(M) and Congress may fail to win any seat in the Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

Counting for 587 Village Committees began on October 5 amid tight security across the state.

Speaking during the counting process, Debroy said voters in the tribal areas had experienced what he described as years of “exploitation, oppression and misrule” under previous Left governments.

He claimed the CPI(M) and Congress had lost their political support in the hill areas and predicted a strong performance by the BJP-IPFT-led NDA.

Debroy said his assessment was based on his political experience and described the Village Committee elections as an important indicator ahead of the 2028 Tripura Assembly polls.

He also expressed confidence that the NDA would return to power in the state with a significant majority and appealed to voters to support its development agenda.
