Sikkim MP Urges Centre to Speed Up Rangpo–Ranipool Railway Project

Sikkim Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba has urged Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to speed up the sanction and implementation of the proposed Rangpo–Ranipool railway line, saying the project is important for improving connectivity and supporting the state’s development.

Subba raised the issue during a meeting with Vaishnaw at Rail Bhawan on October 1, where they discussed several railway projects proposed for Sikkim.

The MP also requested the early completion of the ongoing survey for the proposed Melli–Dentam railway line and urged the Railway Ministry to speed up the process that will follow.

Highlighting Sikkim’s strategic location along India’s international borders, Subba said better rail connectivity would be important not only for passenger travel but also for the movement of goods.

He said improved railway infrastructure could help connect local businesses with wider markets and give a boost to sectors such as tourism and trade.

Subba also said the proposed railway projects could create more employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for people in the state.

“Railway will become Sikkim’s future growth accelerator and facilitator as we embark on creating a self-reliant economy,” Subba said.

He added that better connectivity would create new opportunities for economic activities and play a role in Sikkim’s long-term development.
