National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) Director Prof Dinesh Prasad Saklani on September 22 said the National Education Policy (NEP) has introduced a new and significant perspective to India’s education system.
Saklani made the remarks while inaugurating a five-day teacher training programme at the International Fair Complex in Agartala. The programme aims to enhance the professional skills of school teachers and improve the overall quality of teaching.
The training programme has been organised by NCERT in collaboration with the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) under the National Initiative for School Heads’ and Teachers’ Holistic Advancement (NISHTHA).
Saklani formally inaugurated the workshop by pressing a button. School Education Department Secretary Dr Milind Ramteke was also present at the event and addressed the participants.
Speaking on the implementation of the NEP, Saklani said teachers taking part in the training programme have a key role in translating the policy’s objectives into practice.
He highlighted the importance of recognising the learning experiences of students in remote areas, who often gain knowledge through their interaction with nature and their surroundings. According to him, nurturing such creativity and encouraging students to explore their environment are important aspects of education.
The NCERT director also underlined the need for continuous assessment, review and feedback to improve educational initiatives.
He said the feedback and suggestions shared by teachers during the workshop would help in refining the programme and making future training initiatives more effective.
Ramteke said the programme has placed a special focus on primary and school education, with the objective of strengthening teachers’ professional capabilities.
He also said Tripura currently ranks third among states in the country in terms of literacy rate.
Ramteke expressed hope that the training programme would further enhance teachers’ skills and contribute to improving the quality of school education across Tripura.
