The Communist Party of India (Marxist) held a state committee meeting in Agartala on May 6 to review its performance in the recently concluded Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections and the Dharmanagar Assembly bypoll.
The party also started preparing for the upcoming village council elections.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury said the party is conducting a detailed review of both the election results and its organisational performance.
He said the CPIM reviews every election seriously, whether the results are good or bad.
“This time the results were not satisfactory, so we will definitely have detailed discussions,” Chaudhury said.
According to him, the meeting mainly focused on the party’s weaknesses, future strategy, political messaging and preparations for the village council polls.
Chaudhury, who is also the state secretary of the CPIM in Tripura, said the party wants to understand the reasons behind its poor performance and how rival parties managed to win.
“We need to know where we went wrong and what strategies our opponents used. These issues should be taken to the people,” he said.
He added that the upcoming village council elections will be important for the party as it looks to strengthen its grassroots presence in the state.
