The Tripura government is taking steps to increase milk and dairy production in the state to meet growing consumer demand, Animal Resources Development Department (ARDD) Minister Sudhangshu Das said on Wednesday.
Speaking on the sidelines of a board meeting of the Gomati Cooperative Milk Union, Das said the government was working with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) to strengthen the state’s dairy sector through technical expertise and institutional support.
A tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed earlier between the Tripura government’s ARDD, the Gomati Cooperative Milk Union and the NDDB to promote dairy development in the state.
Das said the primary objective was to raise milk production and increase the availability of milk-based products, as the current production level does not meet the state’s demand.
He added that technical assistance from the NDDB, along with support from the Centre, would help improve milk production, processing and distribution in Tripura.
The board meeting reviewed various measures to expand dairy production through the Gomati Cooperative Milk Union and strengthen the supply of milk and dairy products across the state.
The meeting was attended by the chairman of the Gomati Cooperative Milk Union, the head of NDDB’s North Eastern operations, the ARD Department secretary and other officials and board members.
Das said inputs from all stakeholders would be taken into account while preparing a roadmap to expand dairy production and improve the availability of milk and milk-based products across Tripura.
