Delays in infrastructure works in Uripok, Manipur spark public anger

Local organisations in Uripok, Manipur, have voiced strong dissatisfaction over the delay and incomplete execution of ongoing development works, saying it is causing major inconvenience to residents.

A joint press meet was held by the Uripok Apunba Lup (UAL) and the Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup (UNAL), where members raised concerns about the slow pace of work in the area.

They said that since the start of the rigid concrete road construction, both groups have fully cooperated with the agencies carrying out the work. However, several stretches of the road are still unfinished, and drainage works that began months ago remain incomplete.

According to the organisations, the delays have led to growing frustration among locals. They also pointed out the poor condition of the Langol–Shija road, claiming that despite repeated appeals and meetings with the Public Works Department, Manipur, and Keystone Pvt. Ltd., there has been little to no progress.

Another major concern highlighted was frequent flooding from the Nambul River. They said the Uripok side still lacks a proper retaining wall, which poses a risk to both lives and property.

Given the situation, the organisations have appealed to the Manipur Chief Minister to step in and ensure that the ongoing projects in Uripok are completed properly and without further delay.
