Akshay Kumar speaks out on bias after Assam contestants, Manipur makeup artist share experiences

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has strongly spoken against racial discrimination faced by people from India’s North East during a recent episode of his show “Dekhiye Duniya ka No. 1 Game Show.” The issue came up after contestants from Assam and his makeup artist from Manipur shared their painful experiences.

During the show, triplets from Dibrugarh opened up about how they were mocked and even called names like “Coronavirus” and “Chinese” because of their facial features. Their story once again highlighted the kind of stereotyping and insensitive behaviour many people from the North East continue to face.

Moved by their words, Akshay Kumar called his makeup artist, Kin, who is from Manipur, to join him on stage. He said he believes such discrimination still happens and made it clear that this kind of mindset is completely unacceptable.

“They are all Indians. They have contributed to this nation, fought in wars like Kargil and Bangladesh, and are as Indian as anyone else,” Kumar said, stressing that people from the North East have played a big role in the country’s defence and development.

The conversation not only brought attention to the everyday discrimination faced by North East communities but also reminded viewers of their important place in India’s cultural and national life.
