Two students from Arunachal’s Namsai get Republic Day parade invite

Two school students from the remote Namsai district of Arunachal Pradesh have been invited as special guests to the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi after their project on waste management won recognition at the national level.

Nang Sujata Jenow and Kusum Kumari Mishra, both Class 12 science students of Government Higher Secondary School, Chongkham, secured the invitation following their performance in the School Innovation Marathon (SIM), a national programme under NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), officials said.

The students emerged among the top performers in a nationwide online competition that focused on innovative solutions for plastic waste management. Their project, aimed at promoting a plastic-free future, drew attention for its practical approach, scientific basis and emphasis on sustainability.

The project was developed under the guidance of their teacher, Moirangtham Surchand Singh, and aligns with the country’s larger environmental and sustainability goals.

School principal Toni Pertin congratulated the students, saying their achievement had brought pride to the institution and underscored the role young innovators can play in addressing environmental challenges and building a sustainable India.
