Union Budget prioritises youth, farmers, poor and women: Tripura CM Manik Saha

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on February 7 said the Union Budget 2026 lays strong focus on overall development, covering key sectors such as education, healthcare, defence and infrastructure, while giving priority to youth, farmers, women and the underprivileged.

Speaking at the Budget Yuva Conference organised by the BJP Pradesh Yuva Morcha in Agartala, Saha said the budget reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of building a developed India by 2047. He added that achieving this goal requires collective effort and that every citizen must carry out their responsibilities sincerely.

The Chief Minister noted that Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget for over an hour, marking her ninth straight presentation. According to him, this reflects consistency and stability in the country’s economic direction. He also mentioned that after Narendra Modi assumed office as Prime Minister, the Railway Budget was merged with the General Budget to ensure more streamlined financial management.

Explaining the significance of the budget, Saha said it presents a clear picture of the government’s income and expenditure while setting out priority areas. He pointed out that nearly 15 per cent of the total allocation has been set aside for defence, underlining the importance of national security alongside development.

Saha said the Prime Minister has repeatedly emphasised four sections of society — youth, farmers, the poor and women — and added that empowering these groups would help bridge social gaps. Keeping this focus in mind, several provisions have been included in the current budget.

He highlighted employment generation as a key area, with a target of creating 3.5 crore jobs under initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rojgar Yojana. The budget, he said, also strengthens support for farmers by ensuring better prices for produce and improving agricultural infrastructure.

The conference was attended by BJP State President and MP Rajib Bhattacharya, former MP Rebati Tripura, BJP Yuva Morcha President and MLA Sushanta Deb, along with other party leaders and workers.
