Tripura’s Manishankar Murashing appointed brand ambassador of district council

Youth outreach through sports has received a boost with the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) appointing state cricketer Manishankar Murashing as its brand ambassador to promote grassroots sporting activities in tribal areas.

An official order issued by the council said the move is aimed at encouraging youth participation and building a stronger sports culture across its jurisdiction. Murashing, among Tripura’s well-known cricketing figures, is expected to engage with young athletes and inspire wider involvement in sports.

The appointment comes after a public appeal by Tipra Motha founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, who had called on the council to formally acknowledge Murashing’s contribution to the game and involve him in talent development efforts. In a social media post, Debbarman said the cricketer’s dedication and performances had brought pride to Tripura, irrespective of results linked to tournaments such as the Indian Premier League.

As per the order, Murashing’s tenure will be for three years from the date of assuming charge, unless terminated earlier under existing norms. He will be paid a consolidated remuneration of Rs 10 lakh annually and will carry out responsibilities assigned by the council from time to time, in line with its rules.

Officials said they hope the association will help spot and nurture talent at the grassroots level and contribute to improving overall sports standards in the region.
