Tripura gram panchayat ranks first in PAI 2.0; two others place in national top four

Tripura has recorded a major national-level achievement with its performance in the Panchayat Advancement Index (PAI) 2.0, the results of which were released on February 2, 2026, by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj.

As per the PAI 2.0 assessment for the 2023–24 financial year, Gram Panchayats in Tripura put up a strong showing, placing the state among the top performers in grassroots governance. All 1,176 Gram Panchayats in the state took part in the assessment, achieving 100 per cent data submission and verification at the block, district, state and central levels.

The full participation and verification, officials said, points to an organised administrative system and effective coordination at the Panchayat level across Tripura.

Tripura Panchayat Minister Kishor Barman said that Jugal Kishore Nagar Village Committee under Jampuijala RD Block in Sepahijala district emerged as the top-performing Gram Panchayat in the country. The panchayat secured the highest score of 88.44 among nearly 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats assessed nationwide.

Calling it a significant achievement, Barman said the result reflects Tripura’s growing role in strengthening Panchayati Raj institutions at the national level.

He further said that South Nalchar Gram Panchayat of Nalchar RD Block in Sepahijala district secured the third position nationally with a score of 88.14. Chesrimai Gram Panchayat under Charilam RD Block, also in Sepahijala district, finished fourth with a score of 87.85.
