Tripura govt tightens vigil against black marketing of fuel and essentials

The Tripura government has stepped up monitoring to ensure uninterrupted supply and stable prices of fuel and essential commodities across the state amid fears of a possible shortage.

State Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Tuesday (March 3) said the department is taking proactive measures to maintain steady availability of petrol, diesel, LPG cylinders and other petroleum products, along with key food items.

The Minister chaired an emergency review meeting at the State Secretariat after long queues were seen at petrol pumps in Agartala from Monday. The rush followed concerns over a potential fuel crunch in the wake of recent US and Israeli strikes on Iran.

Chowdhury, however, clarified that there is no fuel crisis in Tripura and said strict steps are being taken to prevent artificial price hikes or attempts to create panic in the market.

At the meeting, he assessed the existing stock position and supply chain of petrol, diesel and essential commodities. Officials were directed to keep a close watch to ensure price stability and to act firmly against hoarding or black marketing.

The review primarily focused on preventing any artificial scarcity of fuel and food items that could trigger unnecessary price rise.

The department reiterated its commitment to protecting consumer interests and maintaining market stability across Tripura.
