Retired ISRO staffer allegedly kills wife at Karnataka home, police probe suicide angle

A 65-year-old retired ISRO employee has been arrested for allegedly strangling his wife to death with a towel at their home on Wednesday morning. Police said they are also looking into claims that he had planned to take his own life after the incident.

The case was reported around 11 am under the jurisdiction of the Avalahalli Police Station. The accused, identified as Nageshwar Rao, was taken into custody from the house itself.

Alleged attack

According to police officials, Rao allegedly used a towel to strangle his wife, Sandya Sri, inside their residence. After the incident, he did not flee. Instead, he reportedly called an acquaintance and informed them, following which the police were alerted. A team reached the spot soon after and detained him.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield) Saidulu Adavath said the accused was reportedly undergoing treatment for depression and appeared to be under severe distress. “He was said to be depressed and allegedly intended to take his life after the incident. At this stage, we have not found any other strong motive,” the officer said.

Depression angle under probe

Police said preliminary findings indicate that Rao had been receiving treatment for depression. Investigators are now examining his medical records and trying to understand the circumstances that may have led to the crime.

So far, officials have not reported any history of serious domestic disputes or involvement of any third party. However, they said the investigation is still at an early stage.

Daughter informed

The couple’s daughter, who lives in the United States, has been informed about the incident.
