Manipur cops seize 16.6 kg opium, nab two militants in joint operations

Manipur security forces dealt a significant blow to drug trafficking and militancy in the state on January 17 with three key arrests, including the seizure of 16.6 kg of opium near the border.

Police apprehended Nang Lian Siam (35) from ZMA Road, Vengnuam in Churachandpur district, along the Behiang stretch of Tiddim Road under Singngat police station. The opium was recovered from his possession during the operation.

In separate actions in Bishnupur district, security forces arrested active cadres of banned outfits from their homes. Sagapam Tomba Singh (24) of Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou Maning Leikai (Ward No. 4) under Bishnupur police station is associated with the RPF/PLA. Meanwhile, Laishram Thoithoi Meitei (29), also known as Lanngamba, from Chairel Ahallup under Kumbi police station, is linked to PREPAK (Pro).

Authorities described the coordinated operations as a major step toward curbing narcotics and insurgent activities in the region. Investigations are ongoing.
