Centre to hold all-party meeting on January 27 ahead of Budget Session

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiran Rijiju will chair an all-party meeting of floor leaders from both Houses on January 27, a day ahead of the start of Parliament’s Budget Session. The meeting will be held in the main committee room and is aimed at ensuring smooth conduct of legislative business during the session, including discussions on key national issues.

The Budget Session is scheduled to run from January 28 to April 2, with a break in between. The first phase will be held from January 28 to February 13, while the second phase will resume from March 9 to April 2. In total, Parliament is expected to sit for 30 days during the session.

The session will formally begin with President Droupadi Murmu addressing a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The Union Budget for 2026–27 will be presented on February 1.

Ahead of the session, the Ministry of Finance reiterated recently announced customs duty measures aimed at boosting domestic electronics manufacturing. In the previous Budget, the government had increased the basic customs duty on flat panel displays to 20 per cent to correct an inverted duty structure, while reducing duties on open cells and other key components to 5 per cent.

The government had also fully exempted customs duty on parts used in the manufacture of open cells for LCD and LED televisions, building on earlier reductions. These steps were part of the broader push under the Make in India initiative to position the country as a global electronics manufacturing hub.

The all-party meeting on January 27 is expected to finalise the agenda and help facilitate smoother proceedings during the Budget Session.
