Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs from Manipur, including former chief minister N Biren Singh, left Imphal for New Delhi on December 14 to attend a meeting called by the party’s central leadership.
The departure of the entire BJP legislative contingent comes at a critical political juncture, as the state continues to face uncertainty over its governance. Observers are closely watching the Delhi meeting for clues on the party’s next steps, particularly regarding the formation of a new government.
Speaking to the media before leaving, several MLAs expressed hope that the discussions in Delhi would yield a positive outcome. While some linked the meeting directly to government formation, others said the agenda would become clear only after consultations with the central leadership.
MLA Khemchand said the exact purpose of the meeting would be known only after reaching Delhi, adding that his priority remained restoring peace in the state. MLA Usham Deben suggested that a new government could be formed either in the last week of December or the first week of January.
Khumukcham Joykishan noted that the purpose of the meeting had not been officially communicated but indicated that it was likely related to government formation.
Alongside N Biren Singh, BJP legislators leaving for New Delhi include Achab Uddin, Sagolsem Kebi, Thongam Bishwajit, Paonam Brojen, Kh Ibomcha, Thokchom Satyabrata, K Robindro and Tongbram Robindro, among others.
