Australia Issues World’s First Social Media Ban for Under-16 Users

Australia has become the first country in the world to enforce a blanket ban on social media for minors under the age of 16. Under the new law, accounts belonging to children and teenagers below 16 have been taken down across all major platforms.

As per the guidelines, platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, TikTok and YouTube will now be required to block access for users under 16.

The government has stated that this step has been taken to protect young people from harmful influences and ensure their safety in the digital space.
