Police have arrested four persons in connection with a Public Works Department (PWD) slab theft case registered at Dispur Police Station under Case No. 975/2025 and Section 305(e) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The arrests began with Jaynal Abedin (21), a resident of Palhaji Gaon in Barpeta, who was intercepted while transporting stolen PWD slabs in a 407 truck bearing registration number AS-02 CC 9763. Police said the slabs were being supplied to a warehouse located at Bongora Last Gate.
During interrogation, Abedin reportedly revealed the names of others involved in the racket. Based on this information, police arrested Shaber Ali (47) of Kaita Siddi Path, Bongora Last Gate, Mirza, and Sahil Ahmed (23) of Khopani Kuchi in Hajo, Kamrup (Rural). Subsequent searches at their premises led to the recovery of several stolen PWD materials from different warehouses.
Further investigation indicated that the slabs were being sourced from another warehouse allegedly owned by a person named Shahjahan. Acting on this lead, police carried out a search operation and arrested Chubur Bhuyan (42), a resident of Balipara in Nalbari, who is believed to be linked to the theft network.
All four accused have been brought to the police station along with the seized truck and recovered materials for further legal action. Police said the investigation is continuing to trace other possible links and recover more stolen government property.
