Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Assam on December 29 for a day-long programme during which he will launch several public safety and cultural initiatives, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on December 18.
One of the key events of the visit will be the inauguration of the Intelligent City Surveillance System (ICSS) in Guwahati. The CCTV-based system is aimed at enhancing urban security and strengthening law enforcement across the city. Shah will also inaugurate the newly constructed office of the Guwahati Police Commissioner.
The Home Minister is also scheduled to inaugurate the Jyoti Bishnu Cultural Complex, a large auditorium with a seating capacity of around 5,000. According to Sarma, the complex is the largest auditorium in eastern India and is expected to serve as a major hub for cultural programmes and public events.
Later in the day, Shah will travel to Borduwa in Nagaon district, the birthplace of Vaishnav saint Srimanta Sankardeva. During his visit, he will inaugurate a state government project aimed at developing Borduwa as a centre for art, culture and spiritual activities.
The Chief Minister said Shah’s visit comes close on the heels of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to Assam starting December 20. He added that several senior national leaders are expected to visit the state in the days ahead.
