A large civet cat that had been terrorising residents of Latum village in Namti, Sivasagar district, has finally been trapped.
For a long time, the animal had been attacking people in the area and preying on livestock, creating panic among locals. Several civet cats had been roaming the region for over three years, repeatedly killing domestic animals and frightening villagers.
Just a few days ago, three people — Anil Boruah, Sushil Kaiya of Namti Kukurachowa, and Anup Bhattacharyya — were seriously injured after being attacked and had to be admitted to hospital.
With the situation worsening, villagers sought help from the Haluwating Forest Department and arranged a cage with their support. Late last night, the civet cat finally walked into the trap.
A large crowd gathered this morning to catch a glimpse of the captured animal. The successful trapping has brought much-needed relief to the residents of the area.
