Sikkim’s Education Department has joined hands with Google to promote the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education and enhance the digital capabilities of teaching faculty across the state.
The partnership will bring the Google AI Educator Series to colleges in Sikkim. The practical training programme is aimed at helping faculty members understand and effectively use Google’s latest AI tools in academic settings.
Programme to Cover 15 Colleges and University
According to the Education Department, the initiative will be implemented across 15 government higher and technical colleges, along with Khangchendzonga State University.
Through the programme, educators will receive training on incorporating AI into classroom teaching, improving instructional methods and creating learning experiences aligned with the evolving needs of higher education.
Focus on Building Digital Skills
The state government said the initiative is expected to strengthen the digital skills of faculty members and help educators adapt to the increasing role of AI in the education sector.
The programme is also intended to encourage the responsible and practical use of emerging technologies in teaching and learning.
Education Minister Welcomes Collaboration
Education Minister Raju Basnet welcomed the partnership with Google and highlighted the importance of adopting new technologies to strengthen Sikkim’s education system.
The department said greater exposure to AI tools would help educators develop new approaches to teaching while preparing students for a technology-driven future.
Statement of Intent Signed
The collaboration was formally established through the signing and exchange of a Statement of Intent between the Higher Education wing of Sikkim’s Education Department and Google.
Principal Secretary Sandeep Tambe, Special Secretary Ujjwal Rai, Joint Director Tshering Yangchen Bhutia, along with representatives from Google, were present during the formalisation of the partnership.
