Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday hit out at the Congress over corruption, challenging the party to discuss its record in government with “figures”. He claimed that the previous Congress-led government was involved in scams worth Rs 12 lakh crore.
Speaking at an event in Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati, where he inaugurated and launched railway projects worth more than Rs 1,542 crore, Shah said the Congress should come forward for a discussion on its record instead of making what he called “irresponsible” remarks.
“Congress people who speak irresponsibly should be told by the people of the country to come for a discussion with figures. What did you do? You did nothing in 10 years apart from scams worth Rs 12 lakh crore and corruption,” Shah said.

Shah also criticised the Congress over its allegations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that no corruption allegation worth even “four annas” could be made against Modi during his 12 years.
“On Narendra Modi, no one can make an allegation of corruption worth four annas in 12 years,” Shah said.
He made the remarks while comparing railway investment in Gujarat under different governments. According to Shah, Gujarat received an annual railway budget allocation of Rs 589 crore between 2009 and 2014, while Rs 17,366 crore was allocated to the state in the 2026-27 Budget.
Shah said the figures showed the difference in infrastructure development under the Modi government compared with previous governments.
“Those who speak irresponsibly should come and discuss with figures. What did you do?” he said, repeating his criticism of the Congress.
SHAH INAUGURATES RAILWAY PROJECTS WORTH OVER RS 1,542 CRORE
Shah was speaking at Sabarmati during an event where he inaugurated, launched and laid the foundation stones for several railway projects. The projects, worth more than Rs 1,542 crore, include a WAG-12 locomotive maintenance shed, development work at Sabarmati railway station and the launch of the country’s first LNG-powered train.
During his speech, Shah also referred to Sabarmati’s historical importance and recalled Mahatma Gandhi’s association with the area, including his work related to Satyagraha, rural development, khadi and simple living.
He said the new railway projects are aimed at improving passenger facilities, connectivity and safety, while also encouraging more environmentally sustainable operations.
The event also saw the inauguration of the WAG-12 maintenance shed and the launch of an LNG-powered train as part of efforts to introduce alternative-fuel technologies in Indian Railways.
