The NEET PG 2026 examination commenced across the country on August 30, with more than 2.73 lakh medical graduates appearing for the postgraduate medical entrance examination at designated centres.

The examination is being conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) in computer-based mode. The test is being held in a single shift from 9 am to 12:30 pm.

Candidates reached examination centres in several cities, including Chennai, Kanchipuram, Agra and Delhi, ahead of the test.

For many aspirants, the moments before entering the examination hall were filled with nervousness after months of preparation. Chayaa, a candidate from Agra, said she was feeling anxious before the examination.

“I’m feeling a bit nervous about it right now, but let’s see how it goes,” she said.

Another candidate, Kirti, said she prepared for the examination through coaching classes while also revising subjects studied during her MBBS course.

“We’ve finished our MBBS, and now we have to take the PG exam. I’ve taken coaching for it, and I’m also reviewing the material from my MBBS days,” she said.

NEET PG is the entrance examination for admission to postgraduate medical programmes across India and is taken by medical graduates seeking to pursue advanced studies in various specialisations.

The examination follows the NEET UG 2026 controversy, after the undergraduate medical entrance test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on May 3 was cancelled amid allegations of question paper leakage and other irregularities.

Following investigations into the allegations, authorities announced a re-examination for affected candidates. The fresh NEET UG examination was subsequently conducted on June 21.

Around 22.79 lakh candidates had registered for NEET UG 2026, with examination centres located across India and at selected centres abroad.

The cancellation of the May 3 examination and the subsequent re-test came after allegations of irregularities and a suspected question paper leak triggered concerns among candidates and their families.
