LPG Cylinder Price Raised by Rs 29, Second Hike in Three Months

The price of domestic LPG cylinders has been increased by Rs 29 per cylinder from June 7. This is the second increase in the last three months and comes at a time when global energy prices continue to rise.

According to industry sources, the price of a 14.2-kg LPG cylinder in Delhi has gone up from Rs 913 to Rs 942.

Earlier, on March 7, LPG prices were raised by Rs 60 following disruptions in global energy supplies caused by tensions and conflict in West Asia. Sources said that even after the earlier increase, state-owned oil marketing companies were unable to fully recover their losses from domestic LPG sales.

Before the latest price revision, public sector fuel retailers were reportedly losing around Rs 703 on every LPG cylinder sold.

The LPG price hike is part of a broader increase in fuel prices across the country. Since mid-May, petrol and diesel prices have risen by a total of Rs 7.50 per litre, while CNG prices have increased by around Rs 6 per kilogram.

Despite these increases, industry estimates suggest that oil marketing companies are still selling petrol and diesel below their actual cost. Reports indicate losses of about Rs 11 per litre on petrol and Rs 33.6 per litre on diesel.

Government officials said that the full impact of rising international energy prices has not yet been passed on to consumers. Instead, state-run fuel retailers have absorbed part of the additional cost as global crude oil and fuel markets remain unstable.
