The Election Commission of India said on May 6 that its digital platform ECINET played a major role in managing the 2026 Assembly elections and bypolls smoothly across the country.
According to the Commission, the platform helped officials monitor polling activities in real time, speed up reporting, improve transparency, and make election management more efficient during the elections.
ECINET was officially launched in January 2026, but its beta version was first tested during the Bihar Assembly Elections in 2025. The Election Commission also said the app has already crossed 10 crore downloads.
On polling days—April 9, 23, and 29—the platform handled more than 98.3 crore hits. On counting day, May 4, it reportedly recorded around 3 crore hits every minute.
The Commission also mentioned that ECINET performed strongly in terms of cybersecurity. It blocked over 68 lakh malicious cyber attacks on counting day. These attacks came from both India and abroad and were aimed at important election systems, including the results portal.
Another new feature introduced this year was a QR code-based Photo Identity Card system at counting centres across states and Union Territories. This was done to improve security and stop unauthorised people from entering counting venues.
The Election Commission said over 3.2 lakh QR codes were generated on counting day to ensure only authorised personnel could access the centres.
This version feels more straightforward and reads like something a student/reporter might write naturally.
