Three killed, one critical as car crashes into divider in Rajkot

Three people lost their lives and another is battling for survival after a speeding car crashed into a divider on a railway bridge in Gujarat’s Rajkot district early Sunday morning, police said.

According to preliminary information, the impact was so severe that the car split into two pieces, with the wreckage landing on opposite sides of the bridge.

The vehicle was travelling from Junagadh to Jetpur with four occupants on board when the driver allegedly lost control. The crash left debris scattered across the bridge, disrupting traffic for several hours and prompting immediate police action to clear the stretch.

Police identified the deceased as Muskan Bagda, Arun Wala and Jaideep Chauhan. Muskan and Arun died on the spot, while Jaideep, who had sustained critical injuries, later succumbed during treatment.

The fourth passenger, Amit Parmar, remains in critical condition. He was first taken to a nearby government hospital and later referred to Junagadh for advanced medical care.

Police teams rushed to the scene soon after receiving information about the accident. Traffic was regulated as officials cleared the damaged vehicle parts from the roadway.

The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination.

Officials said the accident took place in the early hours of Sunday, with initial findings pointing to overspeeding as the likely cause. The extent of the damage — including the vehicle breaking apart — suggested it was travelling at very high speed, officers added.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Rohit Dondiya, along with local taluka police, has launched a detailed investigation to determine the exact sequence of events.

Authorities have once again urged motorists to strictly follow speed limits, especially on highways connecting major towns in the state.
