Manipur Deputy CM says efforts on to identify those behind Litan violence

Manipur Deputy Chief Minister L Dikho on February 10 said the government is working to identify those behind the recent violence in Litan, Ukhrul district, while continuing efforts to bring the situation under control.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event, Dikho said the chief minister, state officials, security forces and civil society groups are in constant touch to restore normalcy.

“We are meeting everyone and trying to make them understand. There are positive signs,” he said. He admitted that a quick solution may not be possible but expressed hope that things would settle down soon.

The Naga People’s Front leader said the culprits have not yet been identified. He mentioned that there was initial confusion following reports of firing and houses being set ablaze, but added that the situation is now clearer. According to him, the government’s steps are beginning to show results and the tension is slowly easing. He also urged the public to cooperate with the authorities.

Meanwhile, the Manipur government has extended the suspension of internet services for another five days in Lhungtin sub-division of Kangpokpi district and Phungyar sub-division of Kamjong district with immediate effect.

In an official statement, the Home Department said the decision was taken amid concerns that anti-social elements might misuse social media to spread provocative content and disturb law and order in the state.
