An encounter took place in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Thursday in which one terrorist was killed during a joint operation by the Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG).
Officials said the slain militant was a Pakistani national affiliated with the Jaish-e-Mohammed. He has been identified as Usman. The operation was conducted by a J&K Police team in coordination with the Army and the CRPF in the Billawar area of the district.
Confirming the incident, the Inspector General of Police (Jammu zone) said, “A Pakistani Jaish terrorist has been neutralised by a small team of the J&K Police in a joint operation with the Army and the CRPF in the general area of Billawar in Kathua district.”
Providing further details, the Army’s Rising Star Corps said that the joint operation was launched on January 23 based on specific intelligence inputs. “The area was cordoned off and contact was established. In a precise action by the joint forces, one foreign terrorist was eliminated,” the Corps said in a post on X.
The post added that search operations are still underway in the area to rule out the presence of any other militants.
