Tripura cricketer Manishankar Murasingh completes 100 Ranji matches, felicitated

A felicitation programme was organised in Agartala on January 21 to honour cricketer Manishankar Murasingh for completing 100 matches in the Ranji Trophy, a feat achieved for the first time by any player from Tripura.

The event, organised by the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA), was attended by Chief Minister Manik Saha, former cricketers, sports administrators and well-wishers from across the state.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister described Murasingh as a pride of Tripura and said his achievement marked a landmark moment in the state’s cricketing history. He pointed out that no player from Tripura had earlier gone beyond the 40–50 match mark in the Ranji Trophy, making Murasingh’s milestone all the more significant. According to him, the achievement will inspire a new generation of young cricketers in the state.

Saha said the felicitation taking place on Tripura’s Statehood Day added special meaning to the occasion. He noted that Murasingh’s long journey in domestic cricket reflected hard work, discipline and consistency—qualities that young sportspersons should strive to emulate.

The Chief Minister also spoke about the state government’s efforts to promote sports, saying steps are being taken to strengthen infrastructure and create better opportunities for children in cricket as well as other sporting disciplines. He added that the government’s focus is on overall sports development to help young talents compete at higher levels.

Officials of the Tripura Cricket Association acknowledged Murasingh’s contribution to the team over the years and credited him with helping raise Tripura’s profile in domestic cricket. The programme concluded with formal felicitations and best wishes for his future career.
