Bollywood actor Janhvi Kapoor has strongly condemned the killing of 27-year-old Hindu man Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh, Bangladesh, describing the act as a “slaughter” and calling for all forms of extremism to be opposed.
Taking to Instagram Stories on Thursday, Kapoor posted a note titled “Dipu Chandra Das,” expressing outrage over the brutal incident. “What is happening in Bangladesh is barbaric. It is slaughter, and it is not an isolated case. If you’re unaware of this inhumane public lynching, read about it, watch the videos, ask questions. And if despite all this you feel no anger, it is exactly this kind of hypocrisy that will destroy us before we even realise it,” she wrote.
Known for her role in Homebound, Kapoor highlighted the wider implications of extremism, both globally and within communities. “We continue to mourn tragedies halfway across the globe while our own brothers and sisters are burnt to death. Extremism in any form must be called out and condemned before we forget our humanity,” she added.
Her post quickly circulated across social media, including Reddit, earning praise for her candid and courageous stance on a highly sensitive issue.
Last week, Dipu Chandra Das, a 27-year-old garment worker, was beaten to death by a mob in the Bhaluka sub-district of Mymensingh following allegations that he had hurt religious sentiments.
The incident has drawn widespread attention in India, with news channels raising concerns over rising religious extremism in Bangladesh. Newspapers have criticized the interim government for failing to prevent such acts of violence.
Leading Bangladeshi media outlets have also expressed concern over the authorities’ inability to maintain law and order, calling the attack a grim reminder of the challenges the country faces in curbing mob violence.
