Manipur Police arrest two militant cadres in separate operations

Manipur Police have arrested two active cadres of banned insurgent outfits in separate operations carried out in Imphal East and Kakching districts, officials said on December 20.

In Imphal East district, police arrested 21-year-old Konthoujam Priyoranjan Meitei from Mahabali Kabui Khul under Porompat police station. He has been identified as an active member of PREPAK (G-5) and is suspected to be involved in extortion and recruitment activities for the outfit. A mobile phone was recovered from his possession. Meitei is a resident of Angtha Mayai Leikai in the district.

In another operation on December 19, security personnel apprehended Thokchom Momocha Meitei, alias Lamngakpa, 28, from the Kakching Lamkhai area under Kakching police station. He hails from Nongada Awang Leikai in Imphal East district and was reportedly working as an active cadre of KCP (MFL).

Meanwhile, a large quantity of explosives and ammunition was recovered on December 20 during search operations at Monglham Base and nearby foothill areas under Thoubal Dam police station in Imphal East district. Police said the seizure included a nearly 9-kg improvised explosive device, three live 12-bore cartridges and 13 fired cartridge cases of different calibres.
