Tripura Police on December 20 seized a large quantity of dry cannabis, estimated to be worth around Rs 15 lakh, during a naka checking operation in Dhalai district. The driver of the vehicle, however, managed to flee from the spot.
The seizure was carried out by a team from Ambassa Police Station at the Betbagan Naka Point in Dhalai district. The operation was conducted following specific intelligence inputs and was led by Second Officer-in-Charge Jay Thapa as part of the district police’s ongoing crackdown on narcotics.
Police said a goods vehicle bearing registration number TR-01-AP-1631 was intercepted during routine checking. While the search was underway, the driver allegedly took advantage of the situation and escaped before being apprehended.
During a detailed search of the vehicle, police recovered 79 packets of dry ganja, which is believed to be worth approximately Rs 15 lakh in the illegal market.
Briefing the media, Second OC Jay Thapa said the police had received credible information about the movement of narcotics. “Acting on the tip-off, we intercepted the vehicle and recovered 79 packets of ganja. The driver managed to escape, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest him,” he said.
This is the third such anti-narcotics operation carried out by Ambassa Police within the past week, underscoring intensified efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb drug trafficking in the region.
