Changlang district has taken the lead in Arunachal Pradesh in promoting women’s participation in the electoral process by setting up 17 Pink Polling Stations, the highest number established by any district in the state.
The initiative, carried out under the leadership of the Changlang Deputy Commissioner, reflects the district administration’s effort to encourage inclusive and gender-sensitive polling practices while strengthening democratic participation.
One such station was Polling Station No. 1/8 Borkhet (PS–8 Borkhet) under the 14/1 Bordumsa Zilla Parishad Constituency. The polling station was managed entirely by women election officials, who handled all responsibilities, including voter facilitation, queue management and overall supervision, ensuring smooth and transparent polling.
Officials said the all-women-managed polling stations provided a safe and comfortable environment, especially for women voters, helping them participate with greater confidence. The presence of women officials in key roles also highlighted their increasing role in the state’s election process.
With 17 Pink Polling Stations functioning across the district, Changlang has set an example for other districts. The move is being seen as a step towards inclusive governance and a reminder of the importance of women’s leadership in a strong and representative democracy.
