Assam government distributes 240 bicycles to Class IX students in Ledo

Under the Chief Minister’s Special Scheme, a cycle distribution programme was organised on Monday, December 15, at Ledo Sankardev Vidyapith Higher English School in Tinsukia district. The event was held under the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency.

During the programme, 240 bicycles were distributed among Class IX students to help ease their daily commute to school and promote regular attendance. Students, teachers and local representatives attended the event in large numbers.

Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma formally handed over the bicycles and spoke about the government’s focus on improving access to education, especially for students from remote and semi-urban areas. He said the scheme would be extended to cover students of all higher secondary schools within the 83rd Margherita constituency.

Officials said the initiative aims to provide safe and convenient transportation for students, which would help reduce dropout rates and ensure continuity in education.

Teachers and staff of Ledo Sankardev Vidyapith Higher English School welcomed the initiative, calling it a timely step that would greatly benefit students.

Among those present were Ranajyoti Neog, president of the Tinsukia District Journalists’ Association, Dheeraj Sonowal, treasurer of the Margherita District BJP, along with members of the school’s teaching and non-teaching staff.
