Assam police arrest former Air Force officer on suspicion of sharing sensitive info with Pakistan

A retired Indian Air Force officer was arrested in Assam’s Sonitpur district on December 13 on suspicion of passing sensitive information to Pakistani intelligence operatives, police confirmed.

Authorities said the case involves the alleged sharing of confidential documents and other details via social media, raising concerns over national security and potential data breaches involving a former defence official.

Additional Superintendent of Police Haricharan Bhumij said preliminary investigations suggest that the accused had been in contact with operatives linked to Pakistan and transmitted sensitive material electronically. Police seized the suspect’s laptop and mobile phone during the arrest.

The devices have been sent for forensic analysis, though investigators noted that parts of the data appear to have been deleted, which could complicate the examination.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the alleged disclosures and whether others were involved.
