Tiwa organisations hold rally in Morigaon, urge government for Sixth Schedule recognition

Several Tiwa organisations on December 12 staged a massive protest rally in Morigaon, marching from the All Assam Tribal Sangha office to the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The demonstration, which passed through the town’s main thoroughfares, drew significant public attention as large crowds joined the procession.

The programme was jointly organised by the All Tiwa Students’ Union (ATSU), Tiwa Youth Students’ Council, All Tiwa Protection Committee, and the Belt Block and Land Protection Committee. Organisers claimed that over a thousand people participated, signalling rising frustration within the Tiwa community over long-pending demands.

Addressing the protesters, ATSU president Cheniram Malang reiterated the community’s key concerns and accused the authorities of prolonged indifference. He warned that the agitation would continue until the government initiated tangible steps to resolve the issues raised by the Tiwa organisations.
