Five Poachers Arrested at Bholakata Beel in Biswanath for Hunting Wild Birds
Forest officials have arrested five poachers who had arrived at Bholakata Beel in Biswanath district to hunt wild birds. Acting on information that nets were being set up at the beel to trap migratory birds, a team led by the Range Forest Officer of the Biswanath Ghat Central Range and the Forest Officer of the Biswanath Crime Investigation Range conducted a raid and caught the five men red-handed.
From their possession, officials seized a live Cotton Pygmy Goose — a rare species — along with a fish-killing net, two mobile phones, a torchlight, and two white bags. The Cotton Pygmy Goose is listed under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, the department informed. The species is known to migrate from Afghanistan.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Saiful Islam, Anowar Hussain, Tamsar Ali, Abul Hussain, and Fukir Ali.
