Diwali Added to UNESCO’s Cultural Heritage List
The Festival of Lights, Diwali, has officially been included in UNESCO’s list of cultural heritage. Announcing the development, Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said it is an emotional and proud moment for every Indian.
Reacting to UNESCO’s recognition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the inclusion of Diwali in the cultural heritage list will inspire not only the people of India but also communities across the world.
Soon after the announcement, an atmosphere of celebration was seen at the ongoing 20th session of the IGCR at Delhi’s Red Fort, where slogans of “Vande Mataram” and “Bharat Mata ki Jai” filled the venue.
