2028 Tripura CM will be from indigenous community, says Pradyot Manikya Debbarma

The founder of Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Wednesday (March 11) said that Tipra Motha Party aims to form the government in Agartala in the 2028 Assembly elections, adding that the Chief Minister’s post should go to a tribal leader. He said the outcome of the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections will play a key role in deciding that.

Speaking at a large election rally in Killa, Debbarma highlighted the importance of the TTAADC polls.

“On one side there is Tipra Motha and me, raising our voice for the future of the indigenous people. On the other side is the Bharatiya Janata Party. It is now up to the people to decide whom they want to support. Looking at today’s gathering, it is clear which direction the wind is blowing. We already know who will win, the election is almost a formality,” he said.

He also claimed that Tripura and Agartala belong to the indigenous people and called for unity to secure the future of the next generation.

Debbarma further criticised the BJP, alleging that its policies have not benefited tribal communities.

“BJP leaders send their children to English-medium schools, but they do not encourage our tribal children to do the same. How can this be called ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’? Village Council elections have not been held for a long time, and tribal communities continue to face problems. Funds meant for the councils are being diverted elsewhere,” he alleged.

He added that while the BJP claims it will dominate the district council, the reality may be different. “In 2028, Tipra Motha will form the government in Agartala, and the Chief Minister will be from the tribal community. The upcoming district council election will play a role in deciding who becomes the Chief Minister,” he said.

Debbarma concluded by urging people to stay united. “For me, the community comes first and the party later. We must remain united because the BJP will try to divide us using money power,” he added.
